Chesham 1879
Chesham 1879 is one of Britain’s oldest tennis clubs. Established in 1879 in the very early days of organised tennis and, from records kept in the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum Library, is apparently the third oldest tennis club in Great Britain still playing.
Today the club is open to all age groups and standards of Tennis, Squash and Racketball. Whether you are a complete beginner, a junior or have years of experience, Chesham 1879 has something for you. The club aims to be friendly and inclusive, and has wonderful courts and facilities. The club is run by the members for the members, so everyone has a chance to have their say.
Social Play
Social tennis is at the heart of Chesham 1879 and members really enjoy the weekly turn up and play sessions. There are club sessions on Tuesday evenings, Sunday mornings in Winter and Sunday afternoon in Summer. Also the club holds many organised social leagues. So, there is plenty for members to enjoy.
Coaching
The club excellent coaching programme run by Challenge Tennis. All coaching is open to all ages and members as well as non-members. There are weekly group junior and adult coaching, all of which are design to help you grow and develop your skills. So if you need some help with your serve or match play, join one of the many coaching courses available.
Competitive Tennis
Although many members enjoy a more social game, some play for the challenge! Therefore the club offers range of competitive opportunities. For example, teams compete in the Aylesbury & District League, Bucks Shield and Farnham Common League. A number of club tournaments also take place each year, which adds yet further opportunities.
Membership
As the club offers tennis, racket ball and squash, a wide range of memberships are available. And while you can join all three sections, if you want to only play tennis, you can just join this section. This means Chesham 1879 offers great flexibility. There are also no joining fees and discounts for early renewals.
Extras
At community plays a big part in club life, members can often be found in the bar catching up. And members frequently gather for non-tennis social events.
