Nailsworth Tennis Club
Nailsworth Tennis Club was formed back in 1989. A few locals took out a 21 year Lease with the then Nailsworth Boys’ Club (now Nailsworth Youth and Community Enterprise) to convert a patch of semi-waste ground behind the centre into two tennis courts. Over the years, many improvements have been made as well as many new developments, funded by a very generous grant from Sport England.
Social Play
Socially, the club is a great way of meeting other people. There are popular social tennis sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings as well as Thursday evenings.
Coaching
If you are new to the game or just want to brush up on your technique, then a range of coaching is available throughout the year.
Competitive Tennis
The club is well-represented in the Gloucestershire League, the Stroud Winter League and the Painswick League. From a competitive point of view, the club’s finest achievement came perhaps in 2009 with the winning of the County Men’s Premier Division trophy.
Junior tennis has also had its successes. Many teenagers have graduated to playing in the senior teams, some have gone on to greater things elsewhere and teams have been successful in the Mini-Orange League for 9 – 10 year olds.
Club tournaments also take place and are a great way to challenge yourself.
Membership
Nailsworth Tennis Club aim is to provide affordable tennis for all. And therefore the subscription rates are very reasonable. Potential new members may use the club up to three times before committing themselves.
Extras
In addition to a superb tennis programme, social events such as dinners, dances and other fund-raising activities also take place.
